Writing Style
Writing Style
A Writing Style is a documented set of rules for how your brand writes — tone, sentence structure, formatting, opening hooks, closing CTAs. It is the single biggest lever on copy quality in Mavic. If you only do one thing in Brand DNA beyond filling in your kit, do this.
You can have multiple Writing Styles per brand — for example, one for LinkedIn thought leadership, one for Instagram captions, one for blog posts.
How to set it up
Go to Brand DNA → Writing Style.
Option 1 — Generate from a workflow
The Writing Style workflow is the cleanest way to create one. From the chat, click the workflow icon and pick Writing Styles. The form will ask:
- Purpose — what are you optimizing for? (Followers, thought leadership, conversions, engagement.)
- Format — is this for written posts, video scripts, or both?
- Target audience — pick one of your saved Customer Profiles.
- Platform — LinkedIn, blog, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok / Reels / Shorts, X / Threads / Bluesky, YouTube.
- Inspiration — paste examples of writing or brands you admire.
Mavic generates a full style guide. Save it.
Option 2 — Generate quickly from Brand DNA
In Brand DNA → Writing Style, click Generate. Mavic proposes one based on your existing personality and positioning. Edit and save.
Option 3 — Add your own
Click Add and fill in:
- Title — e.g. "LinkedIn thought leadership"
- Description — one sentence
- Style guide — the actual rules
For the style guide, the more concrete the better. Cover:
- Tone — engaging? authoritative? playful? Reference an author whose style you like (e.g. "Think Malcolm Gladwell — narrative-led, curious, builds to a takeaway").
- Sentence flow — short and punchy, or long and reflective?
- Examples and data — anecdotes, stats, expert quotes?
- Formatting — paragraph length, use of headings, bullet points
- Openings — bold statement, question, anecdote?
- Closings — reflection, action, summary?
- Product mentions — if relevant: subtle and educational, or direct and CTA-driven?
- SEO — if relevant: keyword density and where to place them
Tailoring per platform
Different platforms need different styles. Suggested defaults if you're starting fresh:
- LinkedIn — professional, insight-driven, opens with a hook, ends with a question
- Blog — long-form, sub-headed, SEO-aware
- Instagram captions — visual, story-led, conversational
- TikTok / Reels / Shorts (scripts) — short, dynamic, hooks in the first 3 seconds
- X / Threads / Bluesky — concise, punchy, designed for replies
- Email marketing — direct, scannable, single CTA per email
Build one Writing Style per platform you take seriously. Don't try to make one style cover everything.
Choosing a Writing Style at generation time
When you create content, you can:
@-tag a Writing Style in the chat — type@, pick Writing style, choose the one you want- Pick from a workflow form — most content workflows have a Writing Style dropdown
- Let Mavic auto-pick — if you don't specify, Mavic uses the most relevant saved style for the platform
Iterating
Writing Styles are not set-and-forget. Once a month:
- Look at your top-performing posts.
- Look at your worst-performing posts.
- Edit the Writing Style to nudge toward what's working.
