Ban List

The Ban List tells Mavic which words, phrases, or topics to avoid in everything it generates for your brand. It's the fastest fix when AI outputs drift off-brand.

What to put on it

Three categories tend to make up most ban lists:

1. AI-clichés

Words that immediately make content feel AI-written. Common offenders:

  • "unleash", "unlock", "harness"
  • "in today's fast-paced world"
  • "game-changer", "revolutionary", "cutting-edge"
  • "tapestry", "realm", "navigate the landscape"
  • "delve", "elevate", "empower"

Mavic provides a suggested ban list of common AI words — click Copy suggested ban list at the top of the page and paste it into your text box as a starting point.

2. Competitor names and protected terms

  • Names of competitors you don't want to amplify
  • Trademarks you can't legally use
  • Acronyms specific to other companies

3. Off-brand language

  • Buzzwords your brand has decided to never use
  • Casual words for a serious brand (or vice versa)
  • Anything you've gotten complaints about

How to set it up

Go to Brand DNA → Ban List.

  1. Click Edit.
  2. Type or paste your words and phrases, one per line.
  3. Click Save.

You can come back and add more any time.

Important caveat

The Ban List is a strong nudge, not a hard filter. Mavic will do its best to avoid these words, but they may still appear occasionally — especially with longer documents or when a banned word is contextually unavoidable.

If a banned word slips through, regenerate the output or refine with the prompt: "Rewrite without using the word X."

Tips

  • Start with the suggested list. It catches 80% of AI-cliché issues out of the box.
  • Add as you spot patterns. Every time you find yourself editing the same word out, add it.
  • Review quarterly. Some words you banned a year ago might be fine now (and vice versa).
