The Chat Complete Guide
The chat: complete guide
The chat is where most of the work happens in Mavic. You can ask questions, generate content, run guided workflows, attach images, and reference your saved brand data — all from one input box.
This article walks through every part of the chat, top to bottom.
Opening the chat
Click Chats in the side navigation. The chat takes over the main panel.
You'll see:
- A list of recent chats on the left (with View all to see your full history)
- The active chat in the middle
- The chat input at the bottom of the screen
If you've never started a chat before, the centre of the screen shows four quick-action tiles: Create social media content, Analyze my brand, Competitor insights, Improve engagement. Click any of them to start.
The chat input — every button explained
From left to right, the icons in the chat composer are:
Icon | What it does |
|---|---|
📎 Paperclip | Attach an image or file from your device, or pick from Library uploads / stock images |
🔖 Bookmark | Open your saved prompts library — click any saved prompt to insert it |
Auto | Model selector — controls speed vs. quality |
{} Workflow | Open the workflow picker — guided forms for posts, blogs, images, and more |
⚡ Send | Send your prompt |
You'll also see a toggle for temporary chat (a sensitive idea you don't want saved) and an @ icon for referencing brand data — the most powerful feature in the chat.
Sending your first prompt
In the simplest case, just type and click Send:
Create three Instagram captions about our spring sale.
Mavic generates the response. From there you can:
- Refine — type a follow-up like "Make them shorter"
- Regenerate a specific output by hovering and clicking the regenerate icon
- Add to Planner — schedule the post
- Publish directly to a connected channel
- Save as a prompt for reuse
Using the workflow picker
Workflows are guided forms that turn structured input into excellent prompts. Use them when you want a more polished result without writing the prompt yourself.
- Click the workflow icon in the chat composer.
- Browse categories: Image Generation, Content Creation, Customize Your Brand, Ideate.
- Pick a workflow (e.g. Instagram Image Post).
- Fill the form — it asks specific questions like objective, tone, customer profile, platform.
- The right-hand panel shows the generated prompt. You can edit it directly.
- Click Use Prompt to drop it into the chat, then Send.
See Creating content overview for the full workflow library.
@ — reference your saved brand data
Type @ anywhere in the chat input. A Select data dropdown appears with twelve categories of saved data. Pick one and Mavic will use that exact piece of brand info for the next generation.
This is the fastest way to make outputs perfectly on-brand. It deserves its own article — see Using @ to reference brand data.
Attaching media
Click the paperclip icon to upload an image or file. You can:
- Upload from your device
- Pick from your Library uploads
- Pick from stock images
Once attached, the file appears as a chip in the composer. Mavic will use it as input for the next generation — for example, "Write a caption for this image" or "Make three variations of this image."
Saved prompts
If you've written a prompt that works well, save it. Click the bookmark icon in the composer to open your saved prompts library and click any prompt to insert it.
To save a new prompt or manage existing ones, see Saving and reusing prompts.
Temporary chat
Working on something sensitive — an unannounced launch, a confidential pitch? Toggle temporary chat in the composer. The conversation won't be saved to your chat history.
Auto vs. specific models
The Auto dropdown lets you pick the model Mavic uses to generate. Auto is fine for almost everything — Mavic picks the best model for the task. For long documents or precise reasoning, you can pick a stronger model manually.
Chat history
Every saved chat lands in the left-hand list. To find an older chat:
- Scroll the list, or click View all for the full history
- Use the action menu on a chat to Share, Rename, or Delete
The Assets tab
Inside an active chat, the top-right shows an Assets tab. Click it to see every image and post generated in that chat, with version history. See Editing & versioning generated assets.
Tips for getting better results
- Be specific. "Write a post" is weak. "Write an Instagram caption announcing our 10% spring sale, written for
@New Pet Parents, in a friendly voice" is strong. - Use
@early. Tag your Customer Profile, Product, and Writing Style up front rather than refining after. - Iterate in the same chat. Mavic remembers context within a chat. Refine instead of starting over.
- Save prompts that work. Press the bookmark icon on a prompt that produced great output and reuse it for similar tasks.
