How to Edit Captions for Each Platform (Solve Character Limit Issues)
This article explains how to fix character limit errors and customize captions for each social media platform using mavic’s Split feature.
Use this guide if you see warnings like:
- “Your caption should not exceed character limit”
- Platform-specific publishing errors
Why This Happens
Each social media platform has its own caption and formatting limits.
When you write one caption for multiple channels, it may exceed the allowed limit for one or more platforms (for example, X, Bluesky or TikTok).
mavic highlights these issues before publishing so you can fix them in advance.
How to Solve Character Limit Problems
To edit captions separately for each platform, use the Split option.
Step-by-Step: Edit Captions Per Platform
1. Create or Paste Your Caption
Start by creating a new post and adding your caption as usual.
If the caption exceeds a platform’s limit, mavic will show validation warnings.
2. Click the Three-Dot Menu
In the caption editor, click the three-dot (⋯) menu.
3. Select “Split”
Click Split to customize your content for each social channel.
A confirmation modal will appear.
4. Confirm Split
Click Split in the confirmation popup.
This will separate the post into platform-specific versions.
5. Select a Platform at the Top
After splitting, you’ll see platform icons (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, TikTok, etc.) at the top of the editor.
Click on a platform icon to switch between platforms.
6. Edit Captions Individually
Modify the caption for each platform based on:
- Character limits
- Platform tone
- Formatting requirements
Each platform’s caption is saved independently.
7. Preview and Publish
Once you’re satisfied with all platform-specific captions:
- Review the previews
- Click Publish to post
Tips for Best Results
- Keep captions shorter for platforms with strict limits
- Adjust tone and hashtags per platform
- Always review warnings before publishing
Common Questions
Do I have to split every post?
No. Split is only needed when you want platform-specific customization.
Will splitting duplicate my post?
No. It keeps everything within a single workflow while allowing individual edits.
